Antelope are more abundant to the east of Highway 31 in the Wagontire Unit.

Tundra and trumpeter swans, avocets, willet, snowy plover, sandhill cranes - just to name a few. This is also a mecca for birds of prey including golden and bald eagles, owls, hawks and falcons. The variety and beauty of bird watching at Summer Lake is unmatched.
There is excellent trout fishing within a 15 minute drive in Ana Reservoir, Ana River and the Chewaucan River near Paisley (flyfishing for wild native trout). There are also several high mountain lakes on Winter Rim that have great fishing.
If ATV and off-road riding is your style, there are numerous designated OHV areas including the Crane Mountain OHV, High Desert MX, Christmas Valley San Dunes and snowmobile trails accessing Winter Rim.
For rest and relaxation, roughly 10 miles to the south is Summer Lake Hot Springs. This 100-year old attraction has both rock-walled hot spring tubs and a larger indoor pool. The hot springs are open year round, 24 hours a day. Another popular stop is the Cowboy Dinner Tree Restaurant near the town of Silver Lake. Known for great steaks, generous portions, make sure you have reservations and come ready to eat!
