Basque and Peruvian sheep herders tended their flocks in these very meadows, and you can see some of their tree carvings in the Aspen grove along the Cow Camp Creek which runs through the property.The main house has 2 generously sized bedrooms on either end, each with adjoining bathrooms. The guesthouse has a bunkroom, and a large bed in the main room. The Castlebrook barn is like none other you've seen - 4 stalls with runs are along one side of the main aisle, and on the other side is another wonderfully adorned guest room and bathroom adjacent, tack room and feed storage area. Ride in your own arena, through the meadow, or on miles of forest service roads and trails.The entire compound sleeps 10 comfortably, and there is an RV hook-up for overflow guests as well. The property is off the grid, powered by either of two Kohler 12 KW diesel generators, and has a 500 gallon propane tank. The well is only 30 feet deep yet produces 40+ GPM, a testament to the abundant water in this Walker River watershed.At an altitude of 7300 feet, this is a true 4 season property offering recreation all year long, such as snow-shoeing and snow-mobiling in the winter; hiking, fishing, and horseback riding in the summer. The spring and fall are spectacular times to witness the changing of the seasons, and to spot some of the abundant wildlife of the area. Part of the ranch is a deer fawning area as recognized by the Department of Fish and Wildlife. You will also see antelope, beaver, coyote, wild cats, hawks, eagles, sage hens and mountain quail among other species. The creek is home to native brook trout, and for the true angler, the many lakes and streams between Leavitt Meadows, Pickle Meadow and the West Walker River will not disappoint.Other local attractions include Topaz Lake, Mono Lake, and the town of Bishop with it's annual celebration called Mule Days, and world class rock climbing.
