Description

The unparalleled beauty and serene privacy of this ranch will take your breath away - every time you wake up in the morning and peer out the window or step outside. Completely surrounded by the Toiyabe National Forest on all sides, this in-holding property is a once in a lifetime opportunity to own a legacy ranch, rich in history, for family and friends to enjoy for generations. The main ranch house is constructed of rough-hewn lumber, custom milled in New Mexico to the owner's standards, providing a classic Western feel with the covered boardwalk porches front and back. Step inside, and you will be transported back in time, struck by the open beamed ceilings, large stone fireplace, indian rugs and wall hangings, and the owner's collection of time period appropriate antiques - the entire collection of which shall remain with the ranch for the new owners to use and enjoy. The history of the area is plain to see, dating back to the Paiute Indians, early 19th century fur trapper expeditions led by Joseph Walker, an employee of the Hudson's Bay Company, and later explored by Capitan John Charles Fremont in the 1840s. Basque and Peruvian sheep herders tended their flocks in these very meadows, and you can see some of their tree carvings in the Aspen grove along the Cow Camp Creek which runs through the property. The main house has 2 generously sized bedrooms on either end, each with adjoining bathrooms. The guesthouse has a bunkroom, and a large bed in the main room. The Castlebrook barn is like none other you've seen - 4 stalls with runs are along one side of the main aisle, and on the other side is another wonderfully adorned guest room and bathroom adjacent, tack room and feed storage area. Ride in your own arena, through the meadow, or on miles of forest service roads and trails. The entire compound sleeps 10 comfortably, and there is an RV hook-up for overflow guests as well. The property is off the grid, powered by either of two Kohler 12 KW diesel generators, and has a 500 gallon propane tank. The well is only 30 feet deep yet produces 40+ GPM, a testament to the abundant water in this Walker River watershed. At an altitude of 7300 feet, this is a true 4 season property offering recreation all year long, such as snow-shoeing and snow-mobiling in the winter; hiking, fishing, and horseback riding in the summer. The spring and fall are spectacular times to witness the changing of the seasons, and to spot some of the abundant wildlife of the area. Part of the ranch is a deer fawning area as recognized by the Department of Fish and Wildlife. You will also see antelope, beaver, coyote, wild cats, hawks, eagles, sage hens and mountain quail among other species. The creek is home to native brook trout, and for the true angler, the many lakes and streams between Leavitt Meadows, Pickle Meadow and the West Walker River will not disappoint.Other local attractions include Topaz Lake, Mono Lake, and the town of Bishop with it's annual celebration called Mule Days, and world class rock climbing. Yosemite National Park is 15 miles away, and a long day on horseback will lead you into the park.Property Highlights:120 Acre In-Holding Property Surrounded by Toiyabe National ForestCustom Rough-Hewn Timber Lodge, with Covered Wide-Plank Front and Back Porch2 Bedroom Main House with Open Beamed Ceilings and Large Stone FireplaceProperty Sells Fully Furnished w/ Antiques, Art, and FurnitureGuest House with Large Picture Windows w/ Views of Cow Camp Creek and AspensLarge Custom Castlebrook Barn w/ Luxurious Guest RoomRiding Arena, Open Meadows, and Miles of Forest Service Roads & Trails to RideNatural Paradise - Deer, Antelope, Beaver, Eagles, Hawks, Mtn Quail, Sage HenAmazing Views of Walker Mountain, Tall Pines, and Mountain MeadowsAspen and Willow Trees Thrive along Cow Camp Creek flowing through propertyHiking, Hunting, Fishing, Camping - Everything the Great Outdoors has to offerGrid Independent with Generators, Propane, Well, and Septic - even has RV hookup
